Reading is the best way I know to become someone else for a little while. I can be as clever and brave as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, or as resourceful as Karana in Island of the Blue Dolphins, or as persevering as Violet, Klaus, and Sunny in A Series of Unfortunate Events. I can even be White Fang the wolf or Black Beauty the horse. Whatever book I pick up becomes my transporter into another life, another place, even another body. It’s one of my favorite things about being a writer — getting to spend all day long in make-believe. And that whole wonderful experience began the moment I started reading books.– Robin Brande, Evolution, Me & Other Freaks of Nature
