It was another unbelievable Memorial Day weekend for Kids Need to Read at Phoenix Comicon 2012! The inaugural KNTR Build-a-Book program featuring author/illustrator Steven Riley was a huge hit with the kids! They learned how to create stories and left laughing with a beautiful new book, backpack (sponsored by Bookmans), Highlights and Cricket magazines, buttons, and other goodies. The third annual KNTR Geek Prom, sponsored by Bookmans for the past three years, was the craziest, most fun ever! The KNTR booth was consistently hopping and fundraisers by Phoenix Comicon and various artists, gamers and costuming groups resulted in huge contributions to our organization! When all was said and done, Kids Need to Read and its sponsors, volunteers and supporters raised nearly $27,000 during the event! We extend our deepest gratitude to Phoenix Comicon, Bookmans, and everyone who went above and beyond to make the weekend an enormous success for KNTR. What a difference you make for Kids Need to Read and its literacy programs for children!
